Prairie Onion (Allium stellatum)

This onion is native to limited parts of Wisconsin and into Minnesota and west, growing in much drier environments than the preceding and adaptable to rock gardens. (read more)  This otherwise similar-looking species to nodding onion (A. cernum) is easily distinguished by its upright flower heads (cernum means nodding in Latin).
